Remembering Rick Alcorn
Thanks for all the notes after the passing of my friend and colleague,
Rick Alcorn. Here are two of them…
From Gena McCleary:
Robert,
So sorry to hear about Rick. He was such a gentle,
caring person. I won't forget our first interaction with him at
the home show. He spent a lot of time with us discussing fountain
ideas and we could just tell that he really cared because he was
really listening. I also won't forget the time he spent at our home
helping you install the fountain.
It's so sad because it was so sudden and unexpected.
May he rest in peace.
Gena McCleary
Rick met Gena and her husband Sid at the Valley Forge Home Show
in the spring of 2010 and followed up by visiting their home, facilitating
my involvement and ultimately participating in the McCleary’s
day long indoor fountain installation (see http://igneousrockgallery.com/blog/sidandgena.php).
I will miss having experiences like this with Rick. Reading Gena’s
words reminded me of the fun we had together that day, Rick’s
excitement leading up to it, and his pride over a job well done.
From Aminata Sandra Calhoun:
Dear Gloria and the Alcorn Family:
My first time meeting Rick Alcorn I found him to be genuine in his
demeanor, a warm and superb gentlemen who was open to reaching out
to others, giving assistance, support and encouragement.
Prior to meeting Rick we had several phone conversation discussing
Igneous Rock Gallery.
In a phone conversation Rick volunteered to drive me from Philadelphia
to Mechanicsburg, PA so that I could meet with Robert Wertz and
see the Igneous Rock Gallery warehouse.
During the drive to and fro we conversed about our families and
Igneous Rock Gallery.
It was through our conversation that I gleaned a deeper awareness
of Rick. He is and was for the betterment of human kind and willing
to give of himself for the end result.
I am totally saddened and having difficulty processing his finality.
I was looking forward to us marketing Igneous Rock Gallery together
this spring, 2011.
Rick is sorely missed. However he has left an impact on me as a
humanitarian and he motivated me as relates to Igneous Rock Gallery.
In Rick's transition be it known that God has found favor for him,
and his transition is one of Peace.
My deepest condolence to Rick's wife Gloria and sons.
Peace and Blessings,
Aminata Sandra Calhoun
Aminata met us at the 2010 Philadelphia International Flower Show
where she was greeted by Rick, who became her primary Igneous Rock
Gallery contact. Aminata has a vision for designing “Feeling
Environments” in major airports. She shared with Rick her
concept of incorporating relaxing music, ergonomic seating and our
water features, among other things, to help weary travelers step
off the treadmill and enjoy a moment of tranquility amidst the airport
hustle and bustle. Rick admired Aminata’s imagination, ambition
and foresight and looked forward to working with her to bring this
dream to fruition.
